As an examination that closely looks and checks one's large intestine and colon health, colonoscopy is one of the most effective ways to identify a disease. This exam uses a small camera called the CCD camera or a fiber optic camera. This passes through one's anus and into the colon and large intestine. Colonoscopy is one of the best exams one could undergo to check if s/he has colon cancer.
As good as the process may seem, there's still some iffiness associated with it. After all, the exam is invasive and not a lot of people are comfortable with the idea of having something up their anuses. It's also a bit disconscerting to know that that something up your anus is a camera. There are, however, alernatives to colonoscopy in case you don't want to be poked and proded that way.
Finger
Exam
Still
invasive, this kind of examination offers a limited range (3-4
inches) inside the rectum. This is, however, very effectve in
identifying prostate cancer.
Barium
enema
This procedure works like
and enema only what is inserted in you is a different substance. The
fluids pumped into your colon will indicate whether or not you have
colon cancer by a reflecting something when you undergo an xray.
Flexible
sigmoidoscopy
Similar to colonoscopy,
flexible sigmoidoscopy also involves something being put inside you
although this process only looks at the last third of your colon and
rectum.
